Sunless Tanning Pros

By

Instead of spending a million years baking in potentially deadly ultraviolet rays emitted naturally by the sun or in concentration by tanning beds, some of us have better things to do with our time and opt for the simple and easy way of attaining the same coloration of our skins. That is why sunless indoor tanning lotions and sprays were invented in the first place. There are many benefits of using a sunless tanning product just as there are a handful of negative factors. However, proper consideration of the negative side effects and using common sense can minimize most of the problems associated with using a self tanner.

No UV Radiation

The number of advantages really does outweigh the cons for those who can help it. The first pro to a sunless tanning lotion is that it does not require the tanner to expose themselves to dangerous ultraviolet rays. This is a known cause for long term health problems such as cancer of the skin. It is important for anyone who is going to be out in the sun to protect themselves with sun screen and lotions containing high SPF ratings. In fact, excessive exposure to UV rays is the number one cause of skin cancers and other related health problems. Why take the risk for something that is purely aesthetic just to fulfill a superficial standard made up by our culture's self indulgent personality.

Time Saver

Using a sunless tanning product saves a lot of time compared to lying out in the sun or in a tanning bed lathered in cheap indoor tanning lotions. It can take multiple sessions of many hours to attain the tint you desire but with a self tanning lotion it only takes a matter of minutes to rub yourself down and bask in your own glow. This is a great time saver and most products will last approximately five to seven days. Manufacturers recommend reapplying approximately every three days to maintain a consistent tan. This is actually the only option for some people who decide last minute that they need a tan for the pool party coming up tomorrow.

Moisturizing

Tanning also very quickly dries the skin causing it to be unhealthy and scaly. This is far from sexy which is the reason people tan in the first place. Tanning lotions usually have moisturizing formulas to add another level of benefit. The moisturizer keeps the skin soft and healthy. This is the complete opposite of that tanning can do to your skin. The process of producing melanin dries the skin and frying the skin under a lamp causes the skin to dry even faster. If you care about your skin at all you would take the precaution if you must tan and moisturize before and during the tanning. Also, do not tan for prolonged periods of time to avoid over exposure.

The Only Choice For Some

Another advantage is for people who have particularly sensitive skin and cannot bear exposure to sunlight or tanning beds. Certain skin types are not designed to tan and will burn very easily. That is when sunless products come in to save the day and they can look like slave laborers like the rest of the population.

Tan Control

Finally, the advantage of a fake tan product is that it makes it easy to attain the amount of tan desired. Unlike sunbathing or tanning beds where it can take a long time just to realize that you have over tanned your skin and now look like a coal miner, fake tans go on and come off relatively easily. It is up to the user to decide whether they want a full bronzer complexion or just a slight tint for the evening. This is something people with real tans must live with until the tan wears off or they acquire an even darker shade.

I think the challenge to acheiving a nice tan using an indoor tanning lotion is avoiding steaks. And advice on the best way to do that? Also I know there are new tanning bulbs out there that will focus most of the rays on a tanner's legs. This might be interesting to some indoor tanners who would like to limit the amount of exposure to their upper body.
