Estimating plastic surgery costs for an individual is not easy and liposuction prices are no exception. It really depends on a number of factors and even then it is only a general range. The most accurate way to really know what it will cost for a particular treatment is by visiting a clinic for consultation and asking the evaluating surgeon for a quote. There is a difference between getting a quote over the phone and in person because it takes a significant amount of prodding the prospective patient to truly evaluate the required procedure and thus the cost of the treatment. Liposuction depends on the person and the treatment they desire.

The factors that determine the final price of liposuction are really all over the place. The area of the body that the patient desires to have treated is a start. But the quality of the surgeon will influence the surgeon fee, which is one of three basic fees that go into determining the cost of the procedure. Also, all prices will be relative to the geographic location of the clinic because it depends on the cosmetic surgery market in the surrounding area that determines how much plastic surgeons can charge. New York or Los Angeles liposuction surgeons will generally charge more because of the large metropolitan population in those areas. Knowing how the price is influenced gives a shopper the power to affect things that are in their control so that the costs can be minimized without sacrificing quality of service.

Area of the Body

The area will influence the price because in the end it is about the time and effort required of the surgeon to complete the procedure. A larger sized area will cost more as will a hard to treat area. Certain parts of the body such as the abdomen and the chest have tougher fat cells to break which means more effort is required to completely remove fat cells from the area.

Fees Breakdown

There are three basic fees that a clinic will charge for liposuction surgery. There is the anesthesia fee which is the charge for the amount of the drug needed to numb the area if only local anesthesia is required. Otherwise general anesthesia will be required and that means an anesthesiologist will definitely have to been present for the administration that will need to be paid for the service. Laser liposuction patients only require local anesthesia and depending on the dosage might not require a board certified anesthesiologist which could save a lot of money.

The clinic will also charge a facility fee which is the cost of being in the surgery room and for the use of the equipment. Everything costs money and the clinic will try to recover as much of their expenses as possible by charging a fraction of the cost across many clients. A clinic that has many clients in theory can lower their facility charge but whether this really plays out depends on their desired margin on this charge.

Surgeons need to eat too. That is why there will be a surgeon's fee for the service of liposuction. A significantly low priced liposuction surgeon, relative to others in his geographical area, should be approached with scrutiny because there has to be a reason the surgeon is trying to lure clients with lower prices. It usually isn't worth the health risk by trying to save some money. Remember to always ask for references from pervious patients as well as for the surgeon's credentials.

Consultation is important for both the patient and the surgeon as it is the only way both parties can learn about each other’s goals and expectations from the surgery. Because liposuction is a very permanent procedure and any surgery is a serious matter, liposuction should be preceded carefully. One of the biggest mistakes a person could make is shopping for a surgeon based solely on the quoted liposuction prices. It is better to pay more for quality assurance that can only come from a quality liposuction surgeon.
